The short version

WholeScripts set out to build a brand-new e-commerce platform where healthcare practitioners recommend and sell supplements directly to patients.

It’s a B2B product with B2C features, and it includes a CRM for prescriptions, fulfillment, and compliance tracking.

I worked on UI design, front-end development, user research, and coaching, including card sorting, surveys, user testing, and building scalable UI components.

What practitioners couldn’t do

The existing system only let practitioners prescribe one brand’s products. They had no way to:

  • Drop-ship to patients
  • Recommend products outside their own inventory
  • Track patient adherence or feedback
  • Handle out-of-stock items well

So practitioners ordered supplements to their offices and reshipped them by hand. Patients wanted more flexibility: buying extra supplements, seeing costs up front, and getting travel-sized products.

One platform, two sides

For practitioners

  • A smart dashboard with patient compliance analytics
  • A recommendation engine
  • Custom product creation and white-labeling
  • Alerts for low inventorys
  • Visibility into patient's follow-through or customization needs

For patients

  • Direct-to-home shipping
  • Room to explore additional supplements
  • Mobile-friendly alerts and modals that keep things clear
  • Ability to communicate directly with a practitioner to change a protocol

How we got there

The project ran on a waterfall schedule over two years. In order to rebuild trust with patients we:

  • Ran diary studies to understand real-world workflows
  • Held feedback and testing sessions with early adopters
  • Used iterative design cycles to launch key features and rebuild trust gradually
  • Built for scalability and accessibility in the front-end codebase

Where the competition fell short

Amazon

No product safety standards or practitioner oversight.

Thorne

No prescription management.

Fullscript

No autoship and limited patient compliance tools.

Creating a recommendation

The core flow, from the patient dashboard to sending a recommendation.

What happened next

Our team designed six connected pieces:

  • Practitioner dashboard
  • Patient management system
  • Recommendation portal
  • MedPax portal
  • E-commerce site
  • Notifications

Designing for both sides of the relationship led to:

  • ↑Product sales for WholeScripts and its practitioners
  • ↑Patient compliance, thanks to easier access and reminders
  • ↑Patient satisfaction from a more convenient, flexible experience
  • ↓Time between purchases
